The Delivery Status dashboard widget has been one of the most popular dashboard widgets and package trackers for mac for a while. You simply enter your item’s name, the tracking number, and the carrier that is shipping your package (the dashboard widget supports over 20 different carriers). I’ve always wanted to try out the iPhone version of this widget, but I don’t ship packages that often, so I guess it was sort of a lucky break (pun intended) when my MacBook had to be shipped to apple for repairs.

Graphics and Interface: The app’s design borrows heavily from the design of the dashboard widget. It is very simple, and the different package carriers each have their own color. The number of days until a package is expected to be delivered is displayed boldly, and is easy to read at a glance. By tapping on this number, you can open, inside the app, a webpage from whichever carrier your package is shipping with, telling you detailed information about your package’s location. From this screen you can also tap the ‘view map’ button, which will open your package’s current location in the iPhone’s Google Maps app. Adding new packages to the app is also very straightforward, and this iPhone app supports all the same carriers that the dashboard widget does. The only complaint I have about the interface is that you have to type in your package’s tracking number manually, but unfortunately until Apple adds copy and paste to all their devices, this can’t be changed.

Bottom Line: This is a great app for tracking your packages, but at $3 it’s not really a solution for people like me, who only get one package a month, tops. But, for people like Scott Bourne who get multiple packages per day, this app would be perfect. The app’s interface is very well done and tracking a package using my iPod Touch has never been easier.
