Histogram is a fairly recently added app. When I saw it scroll through my twitter stream via @148apps_newapps, I thought it could be interesting to see a histogram, on the iPhone, for some of my photos.

Graphics and Interface: The app consists of only two screens. The first screen has a ‘click to choose picture’ button, and this screen also displays the picture and it’s RGB histogram when a picture is selected (for more information about histograms, check out this video). The other screen is the info screen, which tells you basically what the app does, and also suggests another app that compares the histogram of two photos.

Histogram: Being able to view RGB histograms for your photos (or in my case, screenshots) is a neat idea, but the point of a histogram is to analyze the data so you can make exposure adjustments to get a better picture. Because you can’t control exposure on the iPhone’s camera, this app is pretty much useless. Also, because of the way that iTunes compresses your photos that you sync to your iPhone, the histograms for your synced photos are incomplete.

Bottom Line: While this app does exactly what it says, it is pretty much useless as tool to help adjust your photos.

I give Histogram 1 out of 5 iPhone camera icons
